SCRIPTURE READING: MK. 6:7-13 Jesus summoned the Twelve and began to send them out two by two and gave them authority over unclean spirits. He instructed them to take nothing for the journey but a walking stick— no food, no sack, no money in their belts. They were, however, to wear sandals but not a second tunic. He said to them, "Wherever you enter a house, stay there until you leave. Whatever place does not welcome you or listen to you, leave there and shake the dust off your feet in testimony against them." So they went off and preached repentance. The Twelve drove out many demons, and they anointed with oil many who were sick and cured them.
1. Jesus summoned the Twelve: When did Jesus first call the disciples? How did they respond to his call? What did they have to give up? 2. Jesus sent them out: Why did Jesus send them out two by two? Where did he send them to? What were they to do when they enter a house? 3. Jesus gave them authority: Where does Jesus get his authority from? What does this authority allow the disciples to do? 4. Jesus instructed them: How did Jesus instruct and teach his disciples?
By Heart: for Reflection
Reflecting On How The Lord Has Called You To Be A Disciple: - In what ways have you felt the personal call of Christ? - How does Christ make a difference in your life? - What has his call demanded of you? How does one become a committed disciple of Jesus? To whom are you being sent, to teach and to heal?
“...The world needs to be touched and healed by the beauty and richness of God's love. It needs witnesses to that love. The world needs salt. It needs you - to be the salt of the earth and the light of the world...”
Pope John Paul II to the Young People in World Youth Day Toronto 2002

Intercessions: 1. That leaders of the Church may be faithful to their call to tell the world of God’s love 2. That the sick and suffering may be filled with the healing power of Christ 3. That all who have died may find peace and happiness in the kingdom of heaven 4. That those who are persecuted for their faith may be courageous in times of trial 5. That young people may be generous in becoming living witnesses of the gospel
Covenant Prayer: Lord Jesus Christ, by your suffering, death and resurrection, you give us new life: a life filled with joy and purpose; a life only you can give it, for you are the source of life. Guide us on our pilgrimage of life, that following you faithfully as your disciples, we may witness boldly to the world, your love and truth. Enlighten our minds and hearts that your Word which we read and meditated may take roots in our lives. Help us not to fall into sin and if we do fall due to our human weakness, bring us back to you for you are the way, the truth and the life. We also pray for all our brothers and sisters, wherever they are, who are committed to this prayer, that their faith may be strengthened, their hope assured and their love fulfilled. In your name we humbly pray. Amen |
