The beggar and the Old Lady - A sharing from a sermon
There was
once a beggar who had only one arm. He went around begging
asking people to take pity on him. One day, he came to an
old lady
house.
"Ah soh, have pity on me and give me a few dollars for my
dinner."
The old lady looked at the one arm sword man beggar and
said "okay,
why don't you help me to carry some of this bricks to inside
my house
first."
The beggar got angry and answered "Ah soh, you don't have to
insult
me. You know I have only one hand and you ask me to carry
bricks."
The old lady did not bother to answer and instead picked up
one brick
with one hand and walked inside the house. After a second
she came
out again and saw the beggar was still there.
"If I can take one brick with one hand, why can't you?. I
will pay you
if you agree to help me."
The beggar was indigent and speechless and he help the old
lady to
carry the bricks one at a time to inside the house. After
two hours of
hard work, it was all finished and the old lady paid him
twenty
dollars for his labour. Before he left she also gave him a
towel to
rub his sweat.
"I give this towel to you and next time whenever you use it,
remember
always even you are handicap you are not useless."
God give us different gifts. We may think we don't have a
good voice to sing and praise God in church but we are not
useless.
